Description
Agnieszka Kurant is a conceptual interdisciplinary artist who explores how complex social, economic and cultural systems can operate in ways that confuse distinctions between fiction and reality, nature and culture. Created by pouring zinc into termites mounds from Namibia, A.A.I. (System’s Negatives) renders tangible the often invisible architecture and collective work of these insect societies. The title of the work, an acronym for “artificial artificial intelligence”, references digital labor forces that mine personal data to be sold for profiled advertising. By using termite colonies as a model of crowdsourced labor the piece addresses the often concealed uses of artificial intelligence in operations of capitalism.
