Alex Hubbard

(American, born 1975)

Alex Hubbard is contemporary American artist working primarily in painting and video. In both media Hubbard explores composition, volume, and color in unique ways which explore creation and destruction. “You can plan the best painting and it might be terrible, but if you’re in the right mood and in the right space you can make something in 20 minutes that turns out so much better,” he has said. Born in 1975 in Toledo, OR, Hubbard studied at Lewis Clark College and Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland during the 1990s. He currently lives and works in Los Angeles, CA. Today, the artist’s works are held in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, The Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, among others
