Amanda Ross-Ho
(American, born 1975)
Biography
Amanda Ross-Ho is a contemporary American artist whose work relates personal moments with through found objects, sculptures, textiles, and paintings. Memory, private life, and mistakes in the studio are streamlined into specific objects, including over-sized key chains, paint-covered gloves, photo enlargers, and tie-died shirts. “Whenever you produce something, particularly in the studio, there’s always a periphery, or something that happens outside of the studio primarily,” she has reflected. “I’m interested in thinking about that whole system, so not just the rarified part of the primary part or the things you’re supposed to look at, I’m also interested in the things that fall into the margins.” Born in 1975 in Chicago, IL, Ross-Ho studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and her MFA from the University of Southern California in 2006. The artist was included in the 2008 Whitney Biennial and has since been the subject of solo exhibitions at Mitchell-Innes & Nash in New York. She currently lives and works in Los Angeles, CA.
