Biography
Hoyos traveled extensively throughout her life, spending time in Europe and studying painting techniques in Italy. She received numerous awards, honors and recognitions, earning a reputation as a leading figure in Colombian art. Her paintings, which often portrayed human figures, animals and landscapes, are characterized by bright colors, strong lines, and expressive forms.
Always staying true to her Latin heritage, Hoyos often incorporated Colombian folk traditions into her art. She was determined to break the stereotype of Latin American artists producing only political art and succeeded in creating a body of work that blended art and culture to create unique and powerful pieces.
Ana Mercedes Hoyos died in 2014. Her contribution to Latin American art is not only of artistic value but also testifies to the rich cultural heritage of her country and its people.
