Nautical Nights utilizes blue and white oil paint which is buffered together, creating an illusion of a cloudy sky. Serene yet moody blues, blacks, and gold tones are layered within oil and wax, suggesting an aquatic experience where darkness ensues. Beeswax forms horizons and squares contrasting the smooth texture of the oil paint. As one explores the openness in one area, there is simultaneously a geometric boundary and pathway for structure. As with all of Andrea's encaustic works, the torching and layering of molten wax with oil are reflective of nature's elements taking form.
