Shadows cast by light shone through a translucent and loosely concentric gel pattern on clear plexiglass create an elegant non-material extension of the image. The painting by Ania Machudera is wall mounted and hangs about four inches from the wall. Aluminum clips are used to suspend the piece from the ceiling or from two discrete metal arms on the wall.

Ania Machudera was born in Poland where she studied biology and primary teaching at the University of Lodz. Machudera emigrated to Canada in 1990. At OCAD University, in Toronto, she studied drawing and painting and received her BFA in 2005. Since then, Machudera’s work has been shown in public and private galleries in Toronto and in Poland, and it has been reviewed several times in the Globe and Mail. Her work is held in private and corporate collections.
