Alexander Rodchenko (1891–1956) is regarded as one of the most important Russian Constructivist artists, who together advocated for the use of machine-made materials (such as wire, glass, and sheet metal) in the creation of socially productive art for a society in the midst of revolution. An ardent experimenter, Rodchenko worked in a variety of mediums and brought to his photography a use of non-traditional angles and techniques. This portfolio features some of his most well-known images, ranging from striking portraits of his contemporaries to candid shots capturing the spirit of the time.
The works are contained in a handmade portfolio box finished in stamped library calf leather. Endpaper with Constructivist book design by Rodchenko. All mounts measure 17 x 14 inches (43.18 x 35.56 cm.). The portfolio box measures 19 x 15.5 x 2.25 inches (48.26 x 39.37 x 5.72 cm.).
