Large black organic, polygonal shape in black gesso on paper with a white illusory cutout at the bottom creates optical tension. The cutout may be viewed as either white flower petals entering the black or as a jagged black edge. Hill works in the late modernist traditions of concept and minimalism emphasizing the viewer's participation in the work.

Aron Hill works in a formalist style of painting that recalls aspects of minimalism and color field abstraction. Aron Hill currently lives and works in Calgary, Alberta. He graduated from Alberta College of Art and Design in 2000 with a BFA in Interdisciplinary studies. He then completed his MFA at Goldsmiths College, University of London. Aron Hill has exhibited internationally, occasionally lectures, and writes.
