Description
The underlying markings in this painting show some of the important locations of the Atnwengerrp country, Barbara's country, as well as land formations such as sand hills and White Quartz Hill, campsites (old and current), flora, fauna, awelye (women's ceremony) and ancestral dance numbers , as they can still be seen today, etched into the rocks of Anthep. This ancestral site remains the most important place in the land of Atnwengerrp for the people of Barbara. Ceremony and dance are still performed there. It is a place where everyone can meet and camp. It is also a place where permanent water can be found. The epic Sandover River (dry) is represented in this painting by the white dotted line and another white dotted line (thinner) represents the trail of the people across the country. The defining symbol in this painting is that of the sunrise at the center, where the sun rises on a new day, sending rays of radiant light across Barbara's land.
