Timeline
Barbara Ringer is a photo-based contemporary artist who uses dolls and other vintage toys to create images where trauma either has or is about to happen. She often extends the narrative into the framing devices she constructs. Born 1959 and raised in the South Bronx housing projects, she pursued cinema studies at New York University, and later worked for video production studios in New York, Germany, and Switzerland. For the last decade her focus has been on using her camera to portray the darker moments of childhood, as well as the adult anxieties that follow. She resides and maintains a studio in Connecticut.
