Description
Bob Peak captures an idyllic moment as a perfectly shaped nude girl with wings and a flowing transparent dress is seen prancing in a fantasy landscape. Perhaps she is a winged mythological female figure but certainly, she is reminiscent of a goddess from classical antiquity but more beautiful and joyful. Her perfectly proportioned female body with an exposed naked buttock is seen in full stride as she glides through a sunset of magenta and orange. A rainbow lens flare jets out from under her legs and anchors her to the ground. A possible interpretation of this work could be similar to that of the famous art historian Ernst Gombrich as he viewed Botticelli's The birth of Venus. "the work depicts the symbolic fusion of Spirit and Matter, the harmonious interaction of Idea and Nature. In person, this almost life-size painting is truly joyful to look at. The artist's use of color will be an uplifting element in any space. Signed lower left. Unframed. Color will vary from monitor to monitor. Best view with a top key light. Bob Peak is as overlooked as he is talented. In the 1960s to 1980s Peak was a legend and the absolute gold standard for post-WW11 American Illustration. Some of the movie posters Peak has worked on. West Side Story, Rollerball, Star Trek, Superman, Excalibur, Apocalypse Now, The Spy Who Loved Me. My Fair Lady, Camelot and Enter the Dragon. Additionally, Peak illustrated 45 covers of Time Magazine and many covers for Sports Illustrated, TV Guide. He is best known for his many movie posters including Apocalypse Now.
