An extremely important WPA-type piece created by the artist when he was associating with John Steinbeck, Ed Ricketts, Joseph Campbell, James Fitzgerald and other leading figures on the Monterey Peninsula in the 1930s. Beginning an artist, Bruce Ariss redirected much of his energies to writing after meeting John Steinbeck.
