Description
Born in Toronto (1942), Charles Pachter is one of the most collected and cherished Canadian artists. In both style and motif, Pachter’s uplifting images share characteristics with the titans of American Pop Art yet his voice is resoundingly charming, singular and uniquely Canadian.
Caviar20 was invited by Charles Pachter to select drawings from his archives. We reviewed never-seen-before works on paper spanning several decades.
During the 1980s Pachter completed a considerable amount of drawings. This particular work, simply titled "Leaf" features two of Pachter's favorite motifs: hands and the Canadian maple. It is during this (often overlooked) era of Pachter's work that he proves himself as a master draftsman.
Pachter’s 2016 painting, Be Leaf Me revisits this composition, and is fine example of his interest in national motifs and his unique perspective when depicting expressive hands.
Pachter is represented in both public and private collections across Canada and internationally. He has exhibited widely throughout the country including at the Art Gallery of Ontario, The Portrait Gallery of Canada, The Royal Ontario Museum, and the McMichael Gallery. Pachter’s international scope can be demonstrated by his solo exhibitions in France, Germany, Japan, the UK, India, the United States, and Bangladesh.
