Description
Charles Pachter’s unique version of Pop Art has confirmed his position in the canon of 20th-century Canadian art.
In the artist's most cherished work take archetypes of Canadiana -- the barn, Queen Elizabeth, and the moose, -- and depict them with a distinct graphic style, a fresh palette and often through a humorous lens.
Playful and a touch irreverent, Pachter's charming imagery presents a new narrative on Canadiana. The artist’s vast body of work includes painting, sculpture, printmaking, and drawing. Pachter’s works are widely sought-after and are an ideal selection for starting or continuing a collection of 20th century Canadian art.
In this exemplary painting, a paradigm from the "Barn" series, Pachter’s uses a brooding color palette to depict a giant sky in juxtaposition to the flat foreground. Pachter's signature barn is flattened into its landscape, seemingly apart of the continuation of rolling hills.
Intimate in size, paintings of this scale from Pachter are exceedingly rare, as the artist generally works on larger canvases.
