Description
Charles Pachter (b. 1942) is one of Canada’s most collected and cherished artists. His uplifting and patriotic images have independently earned their place in the nation’s museums from coast to coast.
In the spring of 1981, Pachter began working on his most iconic and celebrated series, the Painted Flag. Seven years before Photoshop, he traveled around Toronto photographing Canadian flags, cutting out selections or painting directly over them before finalizing the compositions on canvas.
Caviar20 was fortunate to find a small number of these preparatory works in the artist’s archives and are incredibly excited to be offering these unique early examples from this famed series. For a young collector interested in a unique Pachter, this work presents a fantastic opportunity to acquire an affordable and important piece from the artist.
Pachter is represented in both public and private collections across Canada, including the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Portrait Gallery of Canada, the Royal Ontario Museum and the McMichael Gallery. He holds the position of Officer of the Order of Canada and is a recipient of the Queen’s Jubilee medal.
