Christy Singleton (American)

Timeline

Christy Singleton chronicles life in fast-paced, urban New York as a form of social warfare. Her silicone/mixed media busts are wry commentaries on the pitfalls of plastic surgery and the pressures women feel to combat the aging process. Presenting them as Southern belles, Singleton hearkens back to her roots in Atlanta, but adopts her images from New York social diaries and surgical web sites. Different are her works on paper which contrast opaque, fleshy imagery with precise lips and accessories in hyper-feminine colors. Singleton has exhibited at PS1MOMA and in galleries and art fairs throughout the country, especially in Brooklyn where she lives. With a background in dance and sculpture, she has been acknowledged for her work in the fields of performance art and interdisciplinary collaborations.
