Re-purposed metal letters, fused into the shape of a mask with wings then cast in bronze is patinated and polished to create a rich surface. While enigmatic, the title of the work may refer to the silver wings placed over the eyes -- a dream from which one cannot escape. Sculptor Dale Dunning uses the mask motif as a metaphor for human experience.

Dunning holds a Master of Fine Arts Degree from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. While earning his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Mt. Allison University, NB, he studied under Lawren P. Harris (son of Group of Seven member, Lawren S. Harris) and George Tiessen. Dunning has exhibited across Canada and his work is held in private, corporate and public collections including the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, Robert McLaughlin Gallery, McIntosh Gallery at Western University, Carleton University Art Collection, and the National Library of Canada.
