Description
The grey 'Spots' etching with aquatint by master contemporary artist, Damien Hirst was created in 2005 in his signature style of the the famed 'Spot Series'. The 'Spot Series' is one of his most recognized series, with over 1000 variations, each print utilizing different color combinations, they have been created over the past 25 years. Each version of this series is totally unique and handprinted to look mechanical and systematic in execution. The random and infinite color selections within the paintings is integral to the works. Hirst explains that, “mathematically, with the spot paintings, I probably discovered the most fundamentally important thing in any kind of art. Which is the harmony of where colour can exist on its own, interacting with other colors in a perfect format." Any problems he had previously had with color, Hirst claims, were removed by the perfect arrangement of complimentary, yet never repeated, colors in the spots.
