Dan Christensen

Biography
Dan Christensen was an American artist best known for his swirling, ribbon-like line paintings. His luminous marks—created using a variety of applicators like squeegees, brooms, and spray paint guns—are reminiscent of works by Mark Rothko, Kenneth Noland, and Brice MardenJules Olitski and Kenneth Noland. Over the course of his career, Christensen garnered a Guggenheim Fellowship, a National Endowment for the Arts Grant, and a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant. Shortly before his death on January 20, 2007 in East Hampton, NY, a retrospective of his work was exhibited at the Spanierman Gallery in New York. His works are in the collections of The Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, D.C., the Art Institute of Chicago, the Princeton University Art Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and the Wichita Art Museum, among others.
