Dan Christensen (1942-2007) was born and raised in Cozad, Nebraska, and received his BFA at the Kansas City Art Institute in 1964.

Christensen is widely recognized as one of America’s foremost color abstractionists. Over the course of forty years, he was devoted to exploring the limits, range, and possibilities of paint and pictorial form.

At the end of the 1960s, he began using spray guns to draw colorful stacks, loops and lines on his paintings and were considered by the art critic Clement Greenberg among the most original abstract paintings of the decade.

Unlike many of his contemporaries who dedicated their practice to a signature style, Christensen was unrelentingly curious and allowed his dynamic version of abstraction to evolve as he tried new techniques and aesthetics.

Caviar20 is particularly enthusiastic about Christensen's work from the late 1970's and into the 80's. This era is defined by compositions with single explosions or bursts that recall Abstract Expressionism, or even such artists like Sam Francis, but realized in optimistic sweet colors. These works, and "Orange Rush" is a paradigm, manage to be both energetic and up-lifting.

Christensen began exhibiting in New York in 1966 and achieved success at an early age, winning numerous awards along his career. His work appears in hundreds of solo and group exhibitions and is today represented in prestigious institutions, such as the Guggenheim, the Whitney Museum, the MET, the MoMA, the Albright-Knox Gallery, among many others.
