(b.1968, Kingston, ON) Daniel Hughes pays homage to classical painting techniques with a loose hand. Hughes graduated from the New York Academy of Art (MFA, 1995) and received the Elizabeth Greenshields Award for Figurative Art in 1991 and 1995. He has had solo shows throughout Canada, England and the US, and was part of a prestigious group show at The National Portrait Gallery in London (2005). In 2015, he has been shortlisted for the Canadian Portrait Prize. Well known for his sensitive nude paintings, he has recently completed a deft series of charcoal nude drawings.
