Description
Limited edition (exact number unknown, though thought to be fewer than 100), uncommon vintage poster to promote the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra's tribute to Jascha Heifetz, with David Hockney and James Arkatov. It was acquired from the personal collection of the founder of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, James Arkatov - superb provenance. Arkatov was a cellist who photographed famous concert soloists performing. He was born in 1920 and raised in San Francisco, where his father, Alexander Arkatov, owned a photography salon. James was a cellist with the San Francisco Symphony, the Indianapolis Symphony, the Pittsburgh Symphony, and NBC's orchestra and he was a founder of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra. While in Pittsburgh, James began to photograph famous soloists as they came through town and he continued to do so once he relocated to Los Angeles. He also photographed and collaborated with many famous artists like David Hockney, Ed Moses, Jack Zajac and Richard Diebenkorn.
In excellent condition; unframed. A must have for fans of David Hockney and Jascha Heifetz.
