Description
Having worked mainly in wood and natural materials, Butterfield's move to a ranch in Montana in 1979 precipitated a move to constructions in found metals. An early example of the artist's now well known series of equine sculptures, Crystal is a dense weave of various discarded metals and bits of wood, barbed wire and strapping, assembled in uncanny resemblance to the anatomy of a horse.
