Artist Dmitry Yuzefovich remembers—details, colours, textures and images from his life. Using a trompe l’oeil technique to great effect, he renders nostalgic and realistic paintings that recall a rich and somewhat mysterious past. What is real and what is not?
In this piece, the entrance to a home, the door sits open against a dilapidated wall, a red chair, an umbrella, a man’s shoes, crumpled paper, a ball, keys, a toy car, a brush and a can of paint are strewn on the rough wooden floor.The colour palette is muted—earth tones save for hits of colour that highlight certain objects in red, bright blue and green.

Born in Ukraine, Yuzefovich obtained a BFA from the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem, Israel in 2000 and an MFA in 2005. He moved to Canada with his family in 2015 and lives in Nova Scotia. Yuzefovich has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions. His paintings have been collected in Israel, Canada, the US, England and Europe.
