Description
In this exaggerated painting, Kingsman takes an iconic subject matter of Madonna and Child to celebrate the indigenous women of Ecuador. The Ecuadorian mother’s neck is stretched and her infant is nestled into it. Where a swaddled baby would normally be, is the face of an older child who is protected by an oversized hand. Perhaps imagery showing the strength of a mother’s love which reaches beyond infancy. Earthy colors in gouache characterize the painting which is finished in a mahogany frame. It is signed and dated lower right.
