Miss Case was the granddaughter of Admiral Augustus Ludlow Case of Newport, RI a close friend of John Singer Sargent and Emily Sargent. This rare watercolor was a gift from the artist to Admiral Case and descended in the Case family to Muriel Case who sold it to William Vareika Fine Arts Ltd.
