Description
Emily Kam Kngwarray painted expressive representations of the Dreamings that tell about the creation time of the ancestors. Like other contemporary painters, Emily developed an abstract visual language that alludes to these stories. Many of her works refer to the wild yam (kame) Dreaming of which she was a senior custodian within the kinship structure of her community.
The web of lines in this painting could represent paths walked by the ancestors, or the winding roots of the wild yam plant. The yam-style paintings are the most famous and sought after of Emily's repertoire.
Please noted that all Aboriginal Art is created from a so called ‘Birds Eye’ view. This means that the paintings can be hung either horizontally as well as vertically.
SmithDavidson Gallery represents a wide range of Australian Aboriginal Art, please contact for additional information.
