Description
Bent back against a fictional gust of wind, this sculpture of a maple leaf by Floyd Elzinga captures the essence of forces both gentle and destructive. The work is constructed of stainless steel and woven wire mesh, attached to a weathering steel base in the form of a branch.
Canadian sculptor Floyd Elzinga’s work merges iconic imagery from the Canadian landscape – the maple leaf, pine branch and pine cone – with Pop art to create works that are both playful and inspiring. From his studio on the Niagara Escarpment, Elzinga creates unique indoor and outdoor steel and bronze sculptures that resonate with a distinctly Canadian perspective.
Elzinga has exhibited across Ontario and in Alberta and Nova Scotia. His work has been commissioned for public and private spaces in Canada, the US and internationally. A branch and leaf that bends in the wind was commissioned by Global Affairs Canada for the APEC Park in Da Nang, Vietnam. His corten and stainless steel sculptures can be found in the City of Lacombe, Alberta, Kings Christian Collegiate in Oakville, Loretto College, Toronto, The Groves Welcome Center in Humble, TX, the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Toronto to name just a few. Elzinga holds a degree in Earth Sciences from McMaster University, a BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and a Certificate of Art Fundamentals from Sheridan College of Applied Arts & Technology.
