Franz Ackermann

Biography
Franz Ackermann is a contemporary German artist best known for his psychedelic paintings and installations. Often portraying interiors and architecture in a disjointed, cartoony aesthetic, Ackermann’s work is partially inspired by Cubism, in that it attempts to show multiple sides and aspects simultaneously of a single object or environment. Many of his works can be understood as critical and political commentary on the issues of tourism and globalization, such as African Diamond, a painting featuring abstracted maps. Born in 1963 in Neumark-Sankt Veit, Germany, he went on to attend the Akademie der Bildenden Kunste in Munich. He was subsequently included in the 2003 Venice Biennale, and has exhibited with Gavin Brown’s Enterprise in New York. His work can also be found in the permanent collections of The Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, among others. Ackermann lives and works in Berlin, Germany.
