Geer van Velde painted this large canvas (52.76 x 57.48 in.) in 1951. This is the period when “the Studio” is the essential theme of his work. As an incredible place of intimacy for the artist with his creation, the studio is for him a new source of inspiration.

Previously, Geer van Velde had painted a canvas of a smaller format (61x61 cm) with a similar composition. But starting from this first canvas, the painter refines his work to give us the work that we present, more controlled and more accomplished. Without ever being represented, the Studio remains always perceptible. The artist, through his personal geometry, his own perspective and his soft light, invites us into his inner world and his imagination.
