George Ziel was a prolific illustrator for paperback romance books in the 1950's - 1970's. He was born Jerzy Zielezinski in 1914 in Poland. In 1938 he was sent to Dachau concentration camp by the Nazis. Born from that experience, Ziel published two books of his sketches: prisoner Album (1945) and 24 Sketches From The Concentration Camps in Germany (1946). Ironically, the bulk of his commercial work once in American was about love, lust and romance - themes that were in stark contrast to the horrors of the Holocaust.
