Description
Plaster cast, plexiglass plate, lithograph on die-cut cardboard - Cast height: 14.5 cm, plate diameter: 47 cm, lithograph 33 x 41 cm. - Overall measurements: 15 x 47 x 47 cm - Graphic impressions. The graphic work 1967-1992 by Giulio Paolini, Marco Noire Editore, Turin 1992, update file 1992-95, cat. n. 87. ___ The artwork features a plaster bust of the Greek philosopher Parmenides atop a circular plexiglass slab, which displays a layered photographic image of the night sky with planetary motifs and repeated, rotated images of Parmenides' face, suggesting an orbit in outer space. This composition, placed on a white sheet with a linear path, evokes the concept of time and space, transcending geographical boundaries. The artist, referencing the ancient Greek colony of Elea, home to the Eleatic School where Parmenides was a key figure, aims to depict Parmenides' legacy beyond physical locations, hinting at the philosophical journey through time and space, where Parmenides' visage becomes a symbol of eternal recurrence among celestial elements.
