[Actual meaning of family name Derujinsky in Russian is "sackcloth" (дерюга) or "made of sackcloth". In this his sculpture executed just after his arrival in USA and probably going symmetrical with the name of the sitter M'lle D'Arle (then a well known soprano singing in Metropolitan opera) and also willing to attenuate his aristocratic origins the artist is using a very "French" version of his name "Gleb De Rujinsky".]
