Condition Report
The canvas is unlined and the surface is stable. The painting is covered by a dirty and discoloured old varnish and appears loose on its stretcher. There is some damage along the edges of the stretcher and minor paint losses across the background, especially along the upper right edge, on the sitter's right hand, on her mantle and crown. Small retouchings are visible in her flesh tones especially on her forehead, décolleté and right arm, others on her dress, particularly on the right sleeve and left knee, also in the neck area on the lace. Inspection under ultraviolet light confirms the aforementioned retouchings and reveals further retouchings on the left side of the chair and on her lap. Overall the painting appears in moderate condition. Offered in a carved wood frame.
