1918: Moved to New York City
Worked as a scenic and costume designer for Eugene O'Neil's Province Town Theater Group
1923: Married artist and sculptor Eugenie Gershoy, joined the artist colony at Woodstock, NY
1930: Joined the Communist Party in the 1930's and remained a life-long member
1931: Received the Guggenheim Fellowship in Fine Arts
1936–1937: Served as the first director of the American Artists School, New York, NY
Was a leader and active member of both the Artist's Union and the Artist's Congress
1935–1940: Joined the Federal Art Project
Became one of the first members of the Silk Screen Unit of the WPA/FAP
1977: Helped to organize a show of WPA artists at the Parsons School of Design
1992: Died of Alzheimer's disease in 1992
