Description
In June 1943, Matisse moved to the villa "Le Rêve" in Vence. Every morning, like a pianist, he "practised his scales", starting with studies in pencil or charcoal to acquire complete ease, as shown with this "Reclining Nude".
En juin 1943 Matisse s’installe à Vence dans la villa « Le Rêve ». Chaque matin, comme un pianiste, il « fait ses gammes » et commence par des études au crayon ou au fusain afin d’en acquérir une complète aisance comme en témoigne ce « Nu couché »
