Attributed to Henry Pickering (fl.1740-1770)
Portrait of a lady, half-length, in a lace-trimmed grey dress and blue wrap
oil on canvas, feigned oval
77 x 63.5cm, in a carved giltwood William Kent frame
overall: 100 x 88cm
Craquelure and stretcher bar mark upper and lower edge, a couple of whitish marks on surface in corner areas, under uv light, small areas of infilling and retouching evident around the nose, at top of neck, at top of dress. Under uv light, there is also retouching to background especially in the darkest area where the oval is painted; however, this hard to see with naked eye. Well-presented and ready to hang.
