Herbert Brandl

(Austrian, born 1959)

Herbert Brandl is a contemporary Austrian painter, notable for his inclusion among the Neue Wilde group of arists. Large, brilliantly colored canvases comprise Brandl's body of work, oscillating between abstraction and representation, often focusing on landscape imagery like mountain peaks, waterfalls, and fauna. Importantly archetypal of Austrian Neo-expressionism, Brandl has been included among many significant international exhibitions, including the 1985 Biennale de Paris, documenta IX in 1992, and representing the Austrian pavilion of the Venice Biennale in 2007. Born in Graz, Austria on January 17, 1959, he now lives and works in Vienna, Austria.
