Hilde DeBruyne
(Belgian)
Biography
Hilde DeBruyne is a contemporary sculptor born in Belgium to a family of artists. Growing up, her house was filled with timeless works of art, including African masks and remnants of Gothic cathedrals. Her work is mainly abstract and is evocative of sculptors Henry Moore and Kenneth Price. Having studied art history and archeology at the University of Ghent, DeBruyne’s work incorporates symbolisms that represent the cycle of life and can be found in prehistoric and ancient sculpture form around the world. Similarly, fragments of the feminine form emerge from her organic textures and within rock formations, pebbles, and weathered wood that she often uses in her work. She is represented in public and private collections, has exhibited internationally, and contributed several public art murals and sculptures to the state of Iowa in the United States, where she currently live and works.
