Description
This sculpture is certainly one of the artist’s most striking works. Its almost archaic power is clearly inspired by Antes’ famous and significant figure “Kopffüßler”, but adds an almost daunting aspect to its normally rather serence presence. The subtly integrated indian and indigenous reminiscences add an enigmatic touch to its raw and imposing appeal, while the corroding steel adds an element of time to its otherwise timeless presence.
"The objects are projected from within, from the people here"
HORST ANTES
A silent “mentum mori” or rather an enigmatic reminder of the eternal cycle of becoming and passing away of anything, Antes created this sculpture intently in an edition of 1.000 pieces (and deliberately mentioned this in the title “Figure 1000”). His concept was to have 1.000 of them spread in collections and in public spaces all over the world - a brotherhood-like network of silent observers, creating a connection between the most disparate places and cultures.
