Description
Howard Schatz seamlessly incorporates three models (in panniered Comme Des Garçons dresses) in to Seurat’s best known painting. With the cooperation of The Art Institute of Chicago, Schatz utilized a high-resolution scan of the original artwork and painstakingly photographed each model separately under special lighting, mimicking the expressive shadows shown in the original painting and Seurat’s famed “Pointillism” technique. By allowing the faces and expressions of his models to be more visible than the rest of the painting’s figures, Schatz disrupts and highlights the sense of isolation present in Seurat’s masterpiece
