This gouache on linen painting by noted Provincetown artist James Balla displays the influence of the Abstract Expressionist artists who frequented the same Massachusetts seaside town in the 1950's and 1960's. This work has been exhibited by the the Albert Merola Gallery in Provincetown (formerly known as the "UFO" or Universal Fine Objects Gallery), with whom he has enjoyed a longtime partnership. Most recently, Balla was the subject of a major retrospective at the Provincetown Art Museum, which was accompanied by an illustrated catalogue.
