Description
Resulting from an intense observation of color and acute sensitivity to light transitions, Janaina Tschäpe’s paintings emerge at first as a sensory experience. Although essentially abstract, the series of watercolors Untitled (Portrait) (2018–2019) point towards a new direction in her work, namely to portraiture. Tschäpe is fuelled by a desire to portray the human figure as a landscape, however in the end what is pictured is an utterly psychological dimension.
