Jedd Novatt
(American, born 1958)
Biography
Jedd Novatt is an American artist best known for his architectural Chaos sculptures. Consisting of interlocking metal cubes piled on top of one another, the artist investigates the ways in which space is experienced differently by individual viewers. “Although I don’t work with any math or specific calculation, I recognize the inevitable correlation between any object and the math or geometry of its form,” the artist said. Born on March 5, 1958 in New York, NY, he went on to study literature and sculpture at Sarah Lawrence College. After completing his undergraduate work, he moved to France to continue his art education at the Lacoste School of the Arts. In 1981, Novatt returned to New York where he later had his first solo exhibition “Jedd Novatt: Sculpture” at Tibor de Nagy Gallery. The artist currently lives and works between Paris and Provence, France. His works are held in the collections of the City of Bilbao, the Cleveland Museum of Art, and the Pérez Museum of Art in Miami.
