Catalogue note
We are grateful to Christopher Bryant for identifying the uniform worn by this young man as that of an officer of the Royal Artillery. This pattern of coat was worn in the Royal Artillery from circa 1797 until 1812, when it was changed to a short-tailed jacket with gold embroidered buttonholes.
