Juan Sanchez melds his visual lexicon and artist Ana Mendieta’s iconic imagery in a tribute to Mendieta who died at age 36 after a fall from her 34th floor apartment window. Her husband, artist Carl Andre, was tried and acquitted of her murder. Juan Sanchez and his wife Alma Villegas, both friends of Mendieta, attended the trial every day. The print was built from the ground up – handmade paper of black linen, printed in two parts and joined together by a Japanese paper duotone litho, recreation of one Mendieta’s most important works, Tree of Life 1976.
