Canadian artist Julie Himel has chosen a nostalgic pastel palette of blues, yellows and greens for this abstracted landscape of a forest. The bare trees themselves are in a rich brown/black colour and add depth and dimension to the work. Himel is a devoted environmentalist and hopes her work makes a statement to preserve the natural beauty of the world.

“They aren’t realistic landscapes. The palette is often pretty wild. They’re dream-like, sometimes based on memory but they’re a little removed from reality.” Julie Himel

She completed a BFA at York University with additional studies at the Toronto School of Art and Langara College in Vancouver. Himel has been painting professionally for more than 20 years. Her award-winning paintings can be found in private, corporate and public collections.
