Composition A is one of the first 15 Meander paintings to have been made by the artist. The artist included the work in key exhibitions, and did not sell it in his lifetime. When war started in Croatia in the 1990s, Knifer moved the works most important to him from Zagreb to Paris where he then worked - this painting was amongst them. After Knifer's death the painting was returned to Zagreb and formed part of his Estate.
