Kathy Anderson
(American, born 1945)
Biography
Kathy Anderson is a contemporary American realist painter. Known for her realistic depictions of flowers and landscapes, Anderson renders her work in soft brushstrokes and rich, vivid tones. As a dedicated home gardener, the artist has said she is committed to portraying the beauty of gardens in a simple and direct way. “My passion for painting is rooted in my garden,” she explains. “I strive to translate my excitement about the experience of growth, light, and translucent colors from the earth to my canvas.” Born in 1945 in Long Island, NY, she went on to study advertising at SUNY Farmingdale, but ultimately found herself dissuaded her from pursuing a career in commercial art. Though she had first learned how to paint in watercolors, it wasn’t until 2000 that Anderson began to seriously paint in oils under the tutelage of Richard Schmid near his home in Putney, VT. Anderson has exhibited with Susan Powell Fine Art in Madison, CT and Greenhouse Gallery in San Antonio, TX, and her work has been collected by both people and corporations throughout the United States. In January 2018 Anderson was awarded Master Signature Member Status by Oil Painters of America, and in March 2019 she was awarded a 2nd Prize Award in the Oil Painters of America Virtuosos Exhibition, Masters Category, for her work Daffodils and Quince. She lives and works in Redding, CT.
