Keith Mayerson (American, b. 1966) is a Contemporary painter, known for his work depicting historical figures, family snapshots, urban landscapes, and more. Frequently exhibiting his paintings in salon-style installations, Mayerson creates broader narratives out of the sum of his work, citing comic books as an inspiration and influence. Born in Cincinnati, OH, he attended Brown University and received his BA in 1988, and his MFA from the University of California Irvine in 1993.
Mayerson has been exhibiting his work since 1993, and today is in the permanent collection of many major institutions, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, the Cleveland Museum of Art, and the Corcoran Gallery in Washington, DC, among others. He has exhibited with Malborough Chelsea in New York,
Paul Kasmin Gallery in New York, Kiki Gallery in San Francisco, David Shelton Gallery in Houston, and Derek Eller Gallery in New York, as well as numerous others. He was recently included in the 2014 Whitney Biennale, installing a large body of work made over 20 years titled
My American Dream, as well the new Whitney building’s inaugural exhibition,
America Is Hard to See. Mayerson currently lives and works in New York.
